MD State Fair

This past weekend (Weather: overcast, hot) three of the hiking club went to the Maryland State Fair. I think the consensus was that we were expecting more than we got. We didn't see any live events (except a pig-birthing, but I'm talking about more like a concert), the animals weren't doing much (except birthing other animals), and there were too many rides. It seemed like more of a kid-haven than a place to see giant squashes the size of your leg. The 4H clubs had stuff going on, but they seemed, overall, to have done a somewhat half-assed job at their work. We snuck around that whole place, played skee-ball, didn't win anything, and decided that were we to go again we should first acquire our friends' small children so that someone would really, honestly enjoy the fair.

As for actual hiking, collectively we had ice cream (laced with strawberry for me, raspberry for Mike), rootbeer (it was giant, though Sarah says it wasn't amazing), and fries. There wasn't much else worth our while. Afterward, though, we went to a coffee shop, where Sarah got a cappucino that came out after Mike's cappucino which he ordered after hers. I got a chai. But since the coffee shop was closing, we took our drinks over to the Atlanta Bread Co. where I ordered a bagel, Sarah had a vegetable sammich (without too many vegetables) and Mike had what sounded like a pesto panino on foccacia.

As for visuals, this cow had been recently birthed:
